The existing connections across the railway are revitalized and enhanced with new public spaces and squares on both sides of the tracks. The adjacent urban fabric is repaired at the edges and developed towards the tracks. The existing links around the station are combined into a new square to create a simple and distinct connection. Spacious entrances allow the connections to become more visible within the urban structure.
A clearly defined Spinnereiplatz becomes the counterpart to the new station square and creates the entry point for the new urban quarter. It also functions as a hinge between Bahnstadt-Ost, Kirchheimer Vorstadt, the mobility hub and the residential areas of Säer and Saubachpassage.
The new urban quarter offers a robust urban framework with differentiated blocks. It incorporates the elongated Kirchheimer Vorstadt blocks as a reference and thus completes the quarter towards the hillside. A variety of typologies, ranging from single and double townhouses to apartment buildings of different sizes, as well as a range of commercial, retail and office functions and uses – all form a new vibrant urban quarter.
A sequence of public spaces oriented in the east-west direction – a small plaza, a community space, a passage and a neighborhood square – create a new centrality and improved connectivity, thus enforcing the network throughout the local and greater area.
