Situated directly on the Limmat, the Brisgi plot in the city of Baden’s northeastern area is one of the last remaining urban development zones. It is characterized by the iconic high-rise development from the Sixties and by the large open area adjacent to the river Limmat. However, because of the location of the railway line and the lower elevation, it has become cut off from the rest of the Kappelerhof area.
Three clusters of buildings will now be directly linked to the neighborhood by an elevated access road, and the problematic sunken location will be neutralized. A raised base lying between the buildings mediates between the levels and forms an identity-defining entrance and communal zone with urban qualities. An ample landscape park is preserved between the building clusters. This park extends to the Limmat in a wide strip of grass and connects to the river’s natural landscape. Traffic will be limited to the area along the railway lines, and interventions in the landscape will be minimized. A new plaza will be formed with the existing high-rise. This area accommodates communal uses and connects old and new to form a complete whole.
