On April 9, this year’s spring event of the ZUGWEST economic region took place in the community hall of Hünenberg. Around 120 members accepted the invitation and explored topics related to spatial development, infrastructure, and future planning under the annual theme “Freedom versus Boundaries.”
Peter Hausherr, Mayor of Risch and ZUGWEST board member, illustrated how proactive planning in the areas of transportation, real estate, and infrastructure can open up new possibilities—such as through smart mobility solutions and integrated land development.
A highlight of the evening was the keynote speech by Markus Schaefer. With a visionary perspective, he raised questions about how we should perceive spaces today and in the future—not merely as built environments, but as vibrant living spaces. He presented inspiring examples of places that have gained in quality and future viability through repurposing, new connections, and hybrid zones.
His central message: Freedom requires a shared understanding of boundaries—and spaces that allow for change.
