From Barracks to Heidelberg’s Innovation Park
With a large majority the municipal council has approved the framework plan for the Patton Barracks conversion, designed by Hosoya Schaefer and Agence Ter. With this act the groundwork for the urban conversion of the former US barracks into what will become the Heidelberg Innovation Park has been laid out.
The framework plan goes back to the invited competition that Hosoya Schaefer was selected for. The office was able to convince the jury with its proposal during a three-day urban workshop and the following competition phase. The urban development concept was first presented at a citizens’ forum in September 2015 and since then the plan was developed continuously in collaboration with Agence Ter and with the further participation of the local population.
